Our school meals are provided by BCBC Catering Service, freshly prepared on site. Parents may choose for their child to either have a cooked meal or packed lunch each day (provided by BCBC Catering) or provide a packed lunch of their own. Vegetarian/vegan options are available, please inform us in writing if you wish your child to take up this option. If your child has any allergies or specific medical or religious dietary requirements, please inform the school and an individual menu will be developed and agreed with parents to meet those needs.
All school meals comply with “The Healthy Eating in Schools (Nutritional Standards and Requirements) (Wales) Regulations 2013” and payments for school meals are made in advance through BCBCs ‘Cashless Catering’ system.
We encourage pupils to have school meals, especially our younger pupils, as this can greatly help pupils to develop knife/fork skills, try a wider range of foods than they may do at home and also helps staff to identify if children are eating all their food.
Free school meals are available for all pupils as a part of the Universal Free School Meals offer.for all primary pupils. There is a 3-week rotation for school meals details of which are available through the school website or the BCBC website.

Packed Lunch - Healthy Lunchboxes
Whilst there are very strict guidelines in place that ensure that school meals meet the proper nutritional balances the same cannot be said for packed lunches. An FSA survey has reported that 92% of lunchboxes contain food that is too high in fat, salt and sugar.
We recognise that it is our parents’ choice as to what their child has in their packed lunch. However, under the Welsh Government’s ‘Appetite for Life’ and our own Food & Fitness policy, we strongly promote healthy eating for all our pupils. Therefore, we urge parents to make sensible decisions about the balance of food in their child’s lunchbox and to seek imaginative ways to bring healthy choices and variety to their lunchboxes.
In school we teach the children about the importance of balanced diet, ‘five-a-day’ and drinking water regularly. The lunchtime supervisors are expected to reinforce these aims and encourage children to bring healthy choices to school for their lunch. We ask parents to work with us and to help support these aims as much as possible. Where we become aware that a child’s lunch is particularly inappropriate, or that the child cannot comfortably manage the food that is being provided we will contact the parent to discuss the matter.
